heart failure

if christ were
a more effective
manager

maybe we'd have
more saints &
less hate
in this trembling
world.

if buddha
had more efficiently
deployed his
leadership team of
bodhisattvas––

enlightenment might be
as ubiquitous as
ego.

if you still
have a heart––
embrace the
world––

the greed,
the politics,
the whole infernal
thing.

plant a love
tree with roots
in this desolate
place.

teach us, some
how, the opposite of
selfishness.

teach us to
trust & be
trusted.

teach us,
once again,
the sacredness of the
handshake––

the mysteries of
utmost good
faith & the dream of
quality––

before they are
lost

forever.

at this perilous
point, even simple
competence would be
a luminous
lesson.

our hearts are
blessed with
great & good,
we cannot let love
fail.
